NEW FOLLOW-ON PROJECT 2025-2026

Drawing on our findings from the original Women/Theatre/Justice project, Clean Break has developed a new type of training session for people working in the criminal justice system, including police, prison and probation staff, judges and magistrates.

This work is funded by the ESRC's Impact Acceleration Account award, facilitating Clean Break's expertise to reach professionals across the sector.

We are observing the sessions, which include innovative use of artworks from the original WTJ project and the film of Chloë Moss' play Sweatbox. Some time after each session we are conducting follow-up interviews with individual participants, discussing whether and how the workshops affect their occupational thinking and practice in relation to criminalised women.

Development of an extension to the project through 2026 is being funded by Queen Mary University of London and Warwick Business School. During this year we will report on outcomes to policymakers and practitioners at national, regional and local levels, including at an event at The Shard bringing methods, findings and impact together.
